Lamorisse

Poetics of levity.
Each object that overcomes gravity has a force of attraction. As if the mind, so accustomed to Newton’s laws, suspended all scientific explanations to simply contemplate the grace of flight. It happens with helium balloons. Their round and colorful volume seems to fly under the effect of a spell. Albert Lamorisse, the director of Le ballon rouge, adds poetry to magic, giving a red balloon its own personality and will, inventing a friendship between man and lightness. In the final scene of the movie, little Pascal flies into the sky after tying all the balloons of Paris together. Thus in the Lamorisse armchair the filiform segments of the structure suspend the soft colored volume of the seat from the floor.

Rest in the nest.
The Lamorisse is an outdoor armchair consisting of an ultralight aluminum frame and a padded seat that rests on elastic belts. The aluminum frame has a supporting role and it is made of elementary curves and lines, highlighted by generous and colored thickness. It is like the structural part of a nest that welcomes and contains. The cushions are one single collapsible element. By folding this element along the seam lines, the seat, the backrest and, optionally, the armrests are obtained.
Functional deconstructivism.
The visual separation between the supporting structure and the carried element has various convenient effects: cushions can be easily removed and stored flat, to occupy the smallest possible volume, and frames can be stacked. Furthermore, the actual distinction of the components offers the possibility of updating the padded parts, without having to replace the entire product. Storage, handling, component separation and disposal are all simple.
