Relaxed geometries.
Between the informal and the composed session the difference lies in the relaxation. Free from conventional constraints, we let ourselves go to rest, or we use softness to adapt it to the position we need most, to read, to relax, to speak looking at each other. The informality of use is often associated with free forms, sometimes weird. We have tried to combine this need for informality with the need for a visual order in the domestic space. So the strictness of Edge's external geometries contains the free softness on which to let go.
Hard to be softer!
Edge is a sofa characterized by large soft volumes contained by a structural and rigid perimeter edge. The cushions with large lenticular surfaces and abundant proportions immediately give the perception of the comfort of the seat. The stretched surfaces of the side bring order and composure to the informality of the use suggested by the sofa.
The place of the embrace.
The side has a slight inclination, so that the base of the sofa is wider and the object as a whole appears solid and stable. A wide radius of connection on the base corner creates a lifting effect of the sofa due to the shading of the shadows towards the dark. This describes an imaginary contour line that is in continuity with the thickness of the side and helps to perceive the fundamental idea of the project, that is to support the softness of the embrace, to give the place of the relaxed posture a clearly legible spatial identity.
Soft configurations.
The sofas of the Edge series can be configured by combining several linear, angular and dormeuse modules. In the dormeuse the seat cushion extends beyond its normal depth in order to contain the armrest and to leave visible only the upper useful part. The individual modules are covered in fabric or leather. In both cases, the study of the seams makes it possible to highlight the subtle play of contrasts between the rigid and the soft.
